Back to the Basics, Social Media

A few days ago I mentioned getting back to the basics. And while I was referring to lead management I am going to veer slightly off the topic, but only slightly.

We live in a real time world.

This shouldn’t be the first time you have heard this, however for many it never really clicks until it is too late. I am going to skip over a few basic fundamentals with this post, so lets assume we know that we need to buy the right leads, filter according to your business and call the leads fast and frequently. Now that you have gotten a hold the consumer and your phenomenal sales skills have won you their interest and commitment. Now it is up to you to follow through.

Sounds simple, however this entails setting the correct expectations, which can very difficult for sales people to do. Their one goal in life is to get a sale and this, sometimes, leads them to embellish the truth or facts. Lets say they do everything right and for some reason the deal begins to fall apart or better yet fees may have changed. It is up to you to handle this critical situation correctly and in the best interest of the client. Why? Because we live in a real time world where if consumers feel slighted they have the ability to tell the world. Tools like twitter, facebook, myspace, etc. When consumers have a bad experience they no longer only tell 5 people they tell thousands!

Here is a 9 minute video from friend Trace Richardson on the importance of social media and online branding. No longer should you over look this topic.

Great video by Trace on how to kill your brand, providing bad service or being unethical on social media sites.

2009 will be the year for Social Media Managers/Directors!!!

  2. Trace says:

Note to self: less “you knows” and “ums” and get to the point,l 9 minutes was way too long on this….

  3. Bill Rice says:

Great discussion Trace. I stumbled on LeadPress a couple of days ago. I think it is a great idea. Most of these cookie-cutter mortgage and real estate sites are true poor representation for the brokers and worth ziltch for lead generation.

Best of luck in the launch!

    LeadPress? They’re Grrrreat!

  6. Trace says:

To follow up: the personal branding component is where social media has so much potential…. a lot of others have been saying this for a long time… it has finally just hit home for me….

    Shirt… hmmmm… don’t remember…. it’s been a tough market, it’s for sale, what do I hear for a first bid? :p
