Allow Your Email to be Read

When purchasing leads your contact with the consumer is the most important step in earning their business.  Many of us focus strictly on the contact via the phone and very well should, but too many of you allow your email campaigns to fall to the wayside.

With spam filters becoming tighter and tighter it is extremely important that you are writing a subject line that will not trigger these filters. I have mentioned before that I quite frequently fill out Internet and email inquiries just to see what the provider and the competition is up too. When doing this I monitor what email subject titles trigger spam filter and which ones don’t. Most spam filters use a detailed list of words to help determine the spaminess of a the title and content. These filters are essential to many corporations and also to the big 4, Gmail, Hotmail, yahoo!, and AOL and cut down a ton of unwanted emails, however they also catch many of your emails too.

Terms like “rates”, “credit”, “mortgage”, and “free” are typical words that trip the spam filters. If any of your email titles include these words please take them out as soon as possible. Also, if your emails are triggering spam filters there is a chance that your server address may be black listed. If you have been experiencing emails that continue to be bounced back or people with specific accounts, for example Yahoo! have not been able to receive your emails, this could be the reason why. If you are curious and would like to find out if your server IP is black listed you can visit this site and find out.

Here are a few examples of emails that are probably triggering the spam filters:

“Behind on Bills, I can help”
“Call for your free mortgage quote”
“I want to offer you a cash advance on your property”
“Lowest  Rates Guaranteed”

The emails that have continued to beat the spam filters are emails that remain slightly vague. “Hello John, please read this when you have a second”, “Just wanted to touch base”.

The unfortunate circumstance that we all have to deal with is that our industry is notorious for spam emails and we are forced to find way’s around it. Email is an excellent way to communicate with a potential client, but you need to be aware of these spam filters when you are creating your emails.

Here is a decent list of words that will typically trigger the spam filters. Try you best to keep them out of the your emails and you should be in good shape.
